This is the first of the three volumes that make up the book Olympic Studies Reader with contributions from international specialists. The publication focuses on two main areas, Multiculturalism and Multidisciplinarity, which synthesize the recent development of knowledge in subjects related to Olympic Games and to Olympism. The participating authors are volunteer contributors who were selected either to consolidate traditions or to support the development of new specialists. The choice of papers privileging cultural diversity and variety of themes also aimed to encourage new research and orientation of scholars, teachers and students in the Olympic Studies area. The book "Olympic Studies Reader" is a joint academic initiative of Beijing Sport University (Beijing, China) and Universidade Gama Filho (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), which has the support and orientation of the IOC's Olympic Studies Centre (Lausanne, Switzerland). This three-volume book represents the ideal of universality of sport not only in terms of the proposed theme but also in terms of its editorial production, which was able to put multiculturalism into practice.
